Around 3:30 a.m. on Friday, a Texas couple was awoken in their home by the sound of the doorbell ringing “20 to 30 times.”
And after checking the footage from their home security camera, the residents immediately contacted police, Dearly previously reported.
The security camera captured a “distressed” woman, wearing only a t-shirt and broken restraints, ringing the doorbell and then leaving.
Police quickly started a search for the woman and posted the footage online to get the public’s help.
And on Wednesday, she was finally identified as a “victim of family violence.”
Montgomery County Police revealed at a press conference that she is a 32-year-old woman from the Dallas area and that she’s safe.
They discovered her identity after her 49-year-old boyfriend committed suicide in his Sunrise Ranch home. He was found dead during a welfare check after making suicidal threats.
Police found a suicide note at the scene that “helped identify the female and some of the circumstance behind why those events occurred.”
A Montgomery County Police spokesperson said:
“The preliminary cause of death at this time is a single gunshot wound believed (to be) self-inflicted. The decedent’s girlfriend, a 32-year-old white female, who was not on scene when deputies arrived, is confirmed to be the female in the doorbell video that has been circulating around on the internet.”
Police did not confirm if the boyfriend was responsible for the domestic violence against the victim.
She visited at least five homes in the Sunrise Ranch area in search of help the night that the viral video was taken.
Authorities are still investigating the incident and said they only have “one side of the story” right now.
Montgomery police said that the woman was never a missing person and is currently staying with her family.
