In 2012, British bride-to-be Katy Colins was dumped by her fiancé just weeks before their $26,000 dream wedding.
Colins, who was more than ready to walk down the aisle, said that she felt “jilted” by fiancé Thom Soutter’s harsh decision — but she wasn’t going to let it keep her down.
According to her website, Colins used the heartbreaking moment as inspiration to change her life. She wrote on Not Wed or Dead:
Feeling heartbroken, confused and a little disillusioned with where life was heading I made the brave decision to quit my job in public relations, sold my house, my car and anything else that wouldn’t fit into a large backpack before jetting off on my own.
Instead of wallowing, Colins started to travel around the world.
From the Taj Mahal to the Himalayas, Colins explored the wonders of the world, and started to document it all on her blog.
Soon enough, she started to gain a following. Colins wrote:
I received messages from other newly single men and women who said they read my blog as an inspiration that just because you’ve been dumped it doesn’t mean you have to listen to bad power anthems and devour ice-cream.
Before she knew it, the single adventurer started to make headlines. And her story eventually caught the eye of Liverpool Echo reporter John Siddle.
Siddle was writing about Colins’s travels, but the two actually ended up falling for each other.
In January, Colins finally got her wedding. She tied the knot with Siddle at a small ceremony in Coventry.
And now, the couple has big news.
They have a happy, healthy 7-week-old baby girl. Colins recently shared the first touching images of her child, who she nicknamed the “backpacking baby.”
The former “jilted” bride told fans posted this adorable photo to Instagram, along with the caption, “I’ve got someone I want you to meet”:
Her daughter, Everleigh Gray Siddle, was born on May 31. Colins called the birth of her precious baby girl a “whirlwind of incredible emotion” and couldn’t be more thrilled.
She said that she is going to take a break from her busy blogging lifestyle in order to raise the new addition to her “wolf pack”:
I still can’t believe she is finally here! Going to have a break online as we hang out & get to know each other. I’m SO in love!
In addition to getting married and having a beautiful baby, Colins has also written several best-selling novels about her heartbreak and travel.
Her ex-fiancé, legal worker Thom Soutter, told The Sun that it was a “pity” their relationship became so public, but said that he “wished Katy well” after her success.Screenshot/Facebook
He’s even working on starting a family of his own. In January 2016, Soutter got engaged to his longtime girlfriend, Alyson Mobey. They’re tying the knot in September 2017.
As for Colins, her relationship with Soutter is in the past. She’s now focusing on her new loving family.
