After a restless night from painful contractions, Charlene Flores’ husband Elesandro took her to the hospital.
Elesandro tells ABC 7 that after he left to get their other girls to school, he got a call from his wife telling him to hurry back to the hospital:
“She FaceTimes me and says I need you here right now.”
In order to save her baby, Charlene had to have an emergency C-section at the request of her doctors.
Elesandro told ABC 7 that Charlene went through with the procedure knowing it could negatively affect her because of her long history of heart problems.
He said it quickly went downhill for Charlene after the procedure:
“So the doctors come back to me in the room saying your baby’s being worked on, your wife’s asleep. And then I heard code blue. This lady comes to our door area and says, ‘We need you doctor,’ and the doctor rushes back there. And then 20 minutes later the rest of the doctors and nurses flow in the room and tell me that my wife didn’t make it but my daughter’s in an incubator getting her treatment.”
The vibrant 27-year-old mother of four died of heart failure.
Elesandro told ABC 7 that baby Quinn’s condition is improving every day. She was born prematurely and will be in the NICO for an additional month.
He said he and his four girls will need to continue to lean on each other:
“I told my kids, you’re [an] extension of your mother. You guys are women, and you guys are going to be my life, you guys are going to take that role, you guys are going to take care of me, and I know you will, and they have.”
Raising four girls isn’t cheap, and now that Elesandro is doing it alone he said he needs help.
