Not very many couples get to celebrate 70 years of marriage. Therefore, few know the trials and tribulations that life deals after having been married that long: sickness, slowing down, and the grim possibility of death.
But what Jamie Jones filmed in a Florida hospital room will have couples wishing their marriage would last as long, or at least reflect the bonds that people married for a lifetime share.Jamie Jones/Facebook
Jones posted a video, believed to be of his parents, which was taken a hospital room that shows an elderly man tended to his ailing wife. Jones captioned the video of Sam and Nellie:
This is how you carry out your wedding vows after being married for over 70 years… “in sickness and in health.”
As Jones filmed, Sam gently combed the hair of his wife, who had been admitted to the hospital with a kidney infection.Jamie Jones/Facebook
As Nellie lay there letting her husband comb her hair, he pointed out why the moment was significant after seven decades together:
“You used to comb my hair, but I’ve never combed yours before, Nellie. This is the first time for this, you know.”
Sam, concerned over whether he was doing a good job keeping his wife looking polished, then asked Jones if he had done a decent job combing his wife’s hair:
“Am I fixing her hair better?”
Sam continued fixing his wife’s locks as he asked for reassurance that he wasn’t being too rough on her: “It ain’t hurtin’ is it, Nellie? I’m not pulling?”

Commenters were moved by the heartfelt tenderness between the aged couple and that they continued to take care of each other after being together for so long:
Jones explained in the comments section that his mother was “holding her own” as doctors continued to treat her.
One comment perfectly summed up why people were so touched by Jones’s video:
“For better or for worse.”
