Chicago Cubs shortstop Addison Russell, 23, isn’t just one of youngest players in Major League Baseball — he’s also a family man.
The young baseball star had a child with his wife, Melisa Russell, whom he wed in a ceremony last June. The two also care for Addison’s child from a previous relationship.
At the time, he told the MLB:
“To see their eyes twinkle whenever they look at each other and they look at you — I didn’t think I could have anything so beautiful.”
But new bombshell allegations from the baseball player’s 23-year-old wife and her friend have landed Addison in hot water.
According to the New York Post, Melisa accused her husband of cheating on her in what she called an “empowering” Instagram post.
The post, which has since been deleted from her Instagram account, was captioned:

“Being free to be able to make your own choices for your own happiness beats being cheated on, lied to, & disrespected any day. #herestonewbeginnings #onlygetsbetterfromhere.”
She later clarified on Twitter, which has also been deleted, that the post was meant to inspire other women to speak out when they’re in difficult situations. She wrote:
“My post is meant to be empowering, not degrading. At all. I hope it empowers and inspires other women to “not take s***” from anyone, regardless of who they are.
Hoping to empower other women to stand up for themselves is not a crime and…I think it’s brave and real to show that life’s not perfect, and it’s okay.”
But the cheating claim wasn’t the only damning accusation to come from the post.
According to the Chicago Sun-Times, one of Melisa’s “close friends” commented on the photo and accused Addison of abusing his wife in front of their children:Screenshot/Instagram
The comment implied that Melisa may have found out about the cheating after she found condoms in her husband’s apartment and made harsh accusations against the baseball player.
It was enough to catch the attention of MLB.
Addison didn’t play in the Cubs game against the Marlins on Wednesday, and now MLB has confirmed that he is under investigation for domestic abuse.
According to the Chicago Sun-Times, MLB will interview the parties involved, per its 2-year-old domestic violence policy.
The Cubs have not commented on the investigation.
