“Can you wait like two minutes?”
These were the words a husband said to his wife as they tried to speedily make their way to the hospital.
Alexis and Dominique Swinney are a happily married couple with five children. Their fifth child, born just a few days ago, entered the world in a way her parents were not expecting.Jimmy Kimmel Live!
As Alexis and Dominique told talk show host Jimmy Kimmel, they only live about 12 to 15 minutes away from the hospital, but at minute eight, Alexis knew their unborn child was on her way out.
In the video, which you can watch in its entirety below, Dominique is heard asking his wife if she could hold on just a little bit longer, before quickly learning she could not:
“Hold on, hold on … she’s coming out?”
Just seconds later, Dominique and Alexis’s family of six turned into a family of seven.
So yesterday my wife deliver our 5th child in the passenger seat of our car. Still shook! pic.twitter.com/cTBhSulYnZ

The other children’s faces were priceless:
Alexis said of her experience of giving birth in a moving vehicle:
“I started the day off in labor. I was not in the car yet though, but I was definitely in labor. We took a trip to the midwife’s office where she told me I was seven centimeters in transition and it was time to go to the hospital. … The midwife actually put me into the car that way. She was like, ‘Lean the seat back some, this will be the most comfortable. I did not argue because I mean I guess it was the most comfortable way I could have delivered that baby.”
The proud mom added that it was almost if she was destined to deliver her daughter in a moving vehicle because of how badly she wanted to experience an uninterrupted birth— a type of birth a hospital could never provide.
“I have no tears. I had my husband and children around me, and for five minutes we embraced everything that happened without any interruption.”
However, despite calling the overall experience “amazing,” the mom of five did admit her most recent birthing experience was “crazy.”
She wrote on Instagram:
There was something beyond special, about getting to deliver my own baby. No doctors or nurses, no lights, or busy people, no one interrupting a moment that should be the most special moments for families as they bring life into the world. The pain was there, but the joy and peace that followed in those minutes we got to spend alone with our sweet girl was more rewarding then anything I could have asked for.
I honestly think that God allowed me to deliver safely in the car, instead of making it to the hospital, because He knew that my desire for a birth that was without interruption and full of hormones between baby and I, that desire was so deep. And something that the hospital just couldn’t provide for me.
People are shocked and often apologize that I didn’t make it to the hospital. They don’t understand that I just experienced something unrivaled to anything I could have imagined. I witnessed my body take over and a baby be born into my hands. My body is not swollen, and I have no tears. I had my husband and children around me, and for 5 minutes, we embraced everything that happened without any interruption.
Our family has preferred a unique chaos. It was crazy. But it was Amazing.
And as for why Dominique never stopped recording, he told Jimmy Kimmel that he has received that question many times since the video went viral. Alexis then stepped in to say that she was the one who asked her husband to record her— she knew they might not make it to the hospital before their daughter was born.
The family named their baby girl Corbyn Hope, and if Dominique has any say in the matter, Corbyn will be their last child.
Thankfully, mom and baby are doing fine.
