Gabrielle Union and Dwyane Wade Tried to Have a Child for Years. They Secretly Welcomed a Daughter

Award-winning actress Gabrielle Union and basketball superstar, Dwayne Wade welcomed a baby girl to their family on Wednesday, November 7.

WSBTV reports, this is the couple’s first child together, as Dwayne has three other children from other relationships and one adopted son.

This is also both Gabrielle’s and Dwayne’s first baby girl.

The couple announced the birth of their daughter on their Instagram profiles, both happy for her arrival:

“We are sleepless and delirious but so excited to share that our miracle baby arrived last night via surrogate and 11/7 will forever be etched in our hearts as the most loveliest of all the lovely days. Welcome to the party sweet girl!”

However, they have yet to share the baby girl’s name.

The couple chose to take the surrogacy route after suffering several miscarriages. Gabrielle has reportedly spoken out about having miscarriages:

“For so many women, and not just women in the spotlight, people feel very entitled to know, ‘Do you want kids?’ A lot of people, especially people that have fertility issues, just say ‘no’ because that’s a lot easier than being honest about whatever is actually going on. People mean so well, but they have no idea the harm or frustration it can cause.”

In August, Gabrielle explained more on what was causing her to have the miscarriages. She explained to the crowd about being diagnosed with adenomyosis:

“Towards the end of my fertility journey, I finally got some answers, because everyone said, ‘You’re a career woman, you’ve prioritized your career, you waited too long and now you’re just too old to have a kid — and that’s on you for wanting a career,’” she said. “The reality is, I actually have adenomyosis.”

According to the Seckin Endometriosis Center in New York, is a form of endometriosis that causes the tissue that forms the lining of the uterus to grow into the uterus muscle, damaging the uterus wall.

Gabrielle also spoke in detail about her fertility issues in her 2017 memoir, “We’re Going to Need More Wine.”

In the book, she revealed she has suffered at least eight or nine miscarriages over the years while trying to get pregnant.

She has said in multiple interviews that she speaks out to raise awareness and combat the “shame” women feel when having fertility issues.
