A couple was waiting to enjoy their meal at Waffle House when they realized something was in the husband’s glass of water.

According to WCTV, Claire Sheats said the pair were sipping on their drinks as they waited for their food to arrive when her husband looked down into his glass and saw something besides ice in it. She said:

“In my husband’s drink, there’s a whole frog just floating around in the water.”

Sheats said the pair dumped the glass of water out on the table at the Tallahassee, Florida, Waffle House to see what it was and “sure enough, there’s the frog.”

A staff member can be heard in a video apologizing for the dead frog that was now on the table while other workers seemed baffled about how it ended up in the man’s glass.

The woman appeared to be understanding about objects ending up in food, but the frog put her over the top:

“It’s a whole frog in a water drink and you’re at a restaurant. You have hairs in your food sometimes or maybe a little piece of plastic from packaging. But, this is an amphibian and that’s not something that…you definitely lose your appetite immediately.”

The pair filed a complaint with Waffle House and state health inspectors, who went to the restaurant four days after the frog find to investigate on Nov. 9.

The frog was not included in their report, but 11 violations were noted.

Inspectors found food stored at an improper temperature, grease buildup in the cooking area, food residue buildup in coolers, and dust building up in the restaurant. However, the restaurant did pass the inspection.

Pat Warner, a Waffle House spokesperson, released a statement after the frog was discovered in the drink:

We are concerned about this claim and are currently investigating the circumstances. Our corporate team is working with the local operators to determine the facts. Based on what our District Manager saw at the time and after reviewing the video, there are still some issues we are looking into. Serving quality food and delivering a quality experience are responsibilities we take seriously, and we will continue to review this matter.

The pair might not be heading back to one of their favorite spots anytime soon. Sheats explained:

“My husband and I have always enjoyed Waffle House. But, being that that happened, it kind of puts a bad taste in your mouth.”

Waffle House declined Dearly’s request to make a comment.
