A Florida dad shared the moment he saved his toddler son from drowning in a home pool.

On June 23, Albert Passavanti and another gentleman were sitting by the pool watching their children swim when he noticed his young son about to fall in.

The video, which was captured on the father’s Nest security camera, shows a little boy running through the opening of the childproof gate that was set up as Albert and his friend were chatting at a table nearby.

Baby gates only work when you close them.

The little boy appeared to be trying to grab a ball that was in the pool when Albert realized the child was about to fall in. He can be seen pointing at the little boy, warning the others in the pool that “he’s falling” before jumping into action himself.

From one second to the next, Albert went from sitting in a chair on the side to jumping and diving over the 4-foot fence to pull the little boy out of the water.

All it took was 12 seconds for the child to end up in the water. He quipped on Facebook:

Baby gates only work when you close them.

The video has since been viewed over 119,000 times. Hundreds of those who saw the video praised the dad for his quickness:

Good job dad. I can only imagine the terror you must have felt for those moments and after. I’m glad everyone is okay.

Way to go, Dad! Tragedy averted!

Nice hustle, daddy.

According to the American Red Cross, here are the top things pool owners with young kids should know:

  • Secure your pool with appropriate barriers.
  • Designate a water watcher … and stay in arm’s reach of young children.
  • Install anti-entrapment drain covers and safety release systems to protect against drain entrapment.
  • If a child is missing, check the water first.

Thankfully, Albert was nearby to prevent a tragedy from taking place.

He should have been watching the child more closely and he would not have had to dive in after him. Like the suggestions at the bottom of the article said he should have been within arms reach of the child…..
