People are still reeling from the mass shooting in Las Vegas earlier this month. Hundreds of people were injured and, tragically, some were killed, when a shooter opened fire into a crowd of concertgoers enjoying country star Jason Aldean’s performance.
Since the horrifying ordeal, the names and identities of victims have been spreading across the world. Millions of people have donated money or blood, prayed, and volunteered their services in order to help those affected. But, sadly, there are things that no amount of outside assistance can help.
At the end of the day, many victims are still fighting for their lives, including 27-year-old Tina Frost.
The Maryland resident was one of the hundreds injured by the gunfire, leaving her in a coma for nearly two weeks. On Friday, however, she finally woke up.Frost Tina/Facebook
And according to ABC News, she’s been making some big steps in her recovery since then. Frost was reportedly shot in her forehead — the bullet went through the frontal lobes of her brain and right eye, resulting in the loss of her eye.
But she’s not letting that stop her. According to an update on her GoFundMe page, she’s made some incredible strides in her road to recovery since waking up just days ago:
Today has also been a big day for our TT — she is now waking up! She opens her left eye just a lil and looks all around the room at us, taps her feet whenever music is playing, continues to squeeze our hands, and even gives [her boyfriend] Austin [Hughes] a thumbs up when asked.
And in those big in her healing journey were six literal ones. The spokesperson wrote:
She sometimes taps to music and also took her first steps today with the assistance of the nurses — 3 steps to the chair and 3 steps back to the bed.
Of course, like any recovery process, her physical progression will take some time, but the spokesperson wrote that every person has been in awe of her perseverance:
She’s obviously anxious to get her wobble back on. She also breathed on her own for a full 6 hours! We are so proud of our Tina, and everyone is amazed at every single movement she makes.
As for Frost’s future, the update read in part:
The doctors have been talking about Tina’s next steps and are discussing other hospitals that will have all the specialists she’ll need during her long road to recovery. She will be moving ICU to ICU, so the whole team will be on track with her recovery. Dr. Blum, Tina’s Neurosurgeon here at Sunrise is making sure that the facility Tina will be at next meets all the requirements she will need, both short term and long term and all the surgeries she will have over who knows how long.
The spokesperson signed off, writing:
Thanks for all the thoughts and prayers!
And though people definitely did dedicate their thoughts and prayers to the injured young woman, they also dedicated a lot more. In fact, despite the $50,000 goal on her GoFundMe page, people have now donated over $540,000.
Although Frost, and her loved ones, may have a long way to go before she recovers, her first few steps have seemingly shed a light not only on her own future, but also the future of a recovering country.
