Two daycare workers from Kentucky have come under fire after one videotaped the other incessantly taunting a child.

According to WKYT, two daycare workers from Wendy’s Wonderland Day Care were arrested and are facing charges after Tasha Cox recorded Diana Willett taunting a 2-year-old child with a doll.

Reports suggest that both Cox and Willett knew the child had a fear of dolls and small animals.

The video shows Willett shaking the doll in the child’s face as the child winces and tries backing under a nearby table.

As a result of the actions that were caught on camera, Willett is facing charges of first-degree criminal abuse, while Cox faces charges of failure to report child abuse after she posted the video on Facebook.

Following the complaint of a parent who saw the video, Wayne Count police officers opened an investigation.

The department shared a statement on Facebook on April 22.

It reads, in part:

According to Wayne County Sheriff Tim Catron his office received a complaint about abuse of a child that occurred at a local daycare facility on April 19, 2019. Deputy Jerry Coffey with the Sheriff’s Office conducted an investigation into the complaint. After reviewing video of the incident and conducting interviews, he submitted his findings to the Wayne County Attorney Tom Simmons Office to obtain arrest warrants for two of the workers at the facility that were involved in the incident.

However, as WKYT reports, the owner of the day care doesn’t believe the workers were doing anything wrong.

The owner told the reporter, Phil Pendleton, that “the employees were using different techniques to help the child.”

And the parent of another child cared for at Wendy’s Wonderland, Samantha Daniel, said that she’s never had a problem with the establishment:

“I think it’s a bunch of nonsense. From what I know it’s one complaint from one parent who is unhappy. No interviews that I know of with any other parent. No allegations from any other parent.”

The mother of the child in the video has since taken to Facebook to share her side of the story.

Theirs alot more to this story then what has been told. They mentally abused my daughter and made fun of her for being scared. I know they have been scaring my child with things & that’s why she is so afraid of stuff now. She started this daycare when she was 13 months old. There’s been a lot of bad things go on at these daycares, not just the one on 90, but her other daycares as well & none of this stuff should be happening. hopefully we can all go in together and get this daycare shut down!!!!

She later told WKYT that she told the day care prior to seeing the video that her daughter is scared of some things and that when she asked why their employee were waving the doll in her face, they said, “I don’t know”:

“I believe they have been doing this to her for a long time. […] When she cries, they get this out and scare her with it. That is why she is scared of dolls.”

The mom said she is comparing the workers’ actions to “bullying.”

Both Cox and Willet have been released after posting bond. They have since been put on leave.

The daycare workers were probably just having fun, but that type of behavior is pretty immature. I used to havea cat that freaked out if you stuck an empty coke carton on your head. It was funny, but we didn’t do it often, because that’s animal mental abuse. And it’s baby mental abuse if you scare a 2 year old kid with phobias like the little girl in the story.

It is sad what daycares have come to. It is so risky to leave your child or children with people who don’t have the sense or compassion to care for those at the daycares. I am very thankful my daughter-in-law took a leave from working for 12 years and they didn’t have to be subjected to who knows what kind of abuse. Daycares used to be places where one could safely put their children while they worked and be taught valuable things. No more. Mothers think twice before you put your child in a daycare.
