Actress Meg Ryan was singer John Mellencamp’s entire world.

The pair’s passion and romance carried them through a three-and-a-half year relationship, from early 2011 until 2014.

Even toward the end of their relationship, the “Jack & Diane” artist was singing Ryan’s high praises. In September 2014, after the two had officially called it quits, Mellencamp shared his adoration for his ex-lover on NBC’s Today:

“Meg’s an angel. She’s an angel sent to me, and I’m very happy.”

He added more gratitude to the Associated Press:

“I’m very happy with the time I’ve spent with Meg Ryan. She’s a beautiful girl and I know that I will never, ever, ever be with a funnier girl than her. Not gonna happen.”

Even though their romantic relationship was at an end, Mellencamp still held on to fleeting hope:

“Nothing’s over. I never say die for anything. Do you ever quit on anything?”

And now it seems his resilience paid off. On Wednesday, Page Six dropped an exclusive report that two were spotted being romantic in New York City, rekindling their previously dormant flame.

This reunion may come as as shock to fans of the couple, since earlier this year Mellencamp revealed to Howard Stern that Ryan allegedly wanted nothing to do with the 65-year-old performer:

“I loved Meg Ryan. She hates me to death.”

He blamed his “childish” nature for their split, arguing that Ryan’s disdain was completely justified:

“I think it’s because I’m a child. I throw fits. I gripe. I complain. I’m moody. Every bad thing that a fella can be, that’s me.”

However, according to Page Six, Ryan and Mellencamp remained friendly after their breakup. A source told the gossip site that they’ve now been back together for a few months.

Ryan was reportedly “spotted” at Mellencamp’s recent concert in Forest Hills, New York, dancing toward the side of the stage.

Ryan’s been previously linked to music legend David Foster, while Mellencamp’s most recent fling was with supermodel Christie Brinkley. Neither Ryan nor Mellencamp have made a public statement about their potential reunion.

I guess we’re just going to keep our eyes on this one.
