This year’s American Music Awards, like every award show, touted some amazing performers, but it’s the message that carried throughout the night that really stole the show.
Considering the current political climate, it’s proved nearly impossible for the entertainment industry to keep Washington off the stage. But, thankfully for fans, the AMA’s brought a different message to the mic: Togetherness.
From the beginning of the night, nearly every performance and acceptance speech expressed a theme of positivity and unity to the American people — and people noticed.
Jamie Foxx opened the night by bringing first responders on stage to help introduce Kelly Clarkson and Pink, who paid tribute to those who have been affected by the tragic events of the past year. He said:
“Together our strength will pull us through. Together we shall overcome the pain. Together we can unite as a people and as a nation.”
Imagine Dragons kicked off the awards portion with their gracious speech while accepting an award for Best Pop/Rock Duo Group:

Then, Lady Gaga continued to spread the love during her performance of “The Cure”:

And fans across the nation seemed to be grateful to listen to talented artists express positivity:

Thank you for celebrating equality, women’s rights, and expressing what the majority of the nation has been feeling about this year. This year has been hell. It’s nice to know we aren’t alone in thinking this. #AMAs

Togetherness— it’s certainly a welcome message.
