One mom got the Mother’s Day surprise of a lifetime, live on Good Morning America.
On May 10, Cassie Sarpu, her baby daughter, and other family members traveled to watch a live taping of GMA.
At first, she didn’t know why she was there, then host Michael Strahan let her in on a little secret. Cassie and her daughter were being acknowledged for their sacrifice, revealing that Cassie and baby Savannah have been on their own since Cassie was six months pregnant.
Cassie’s husband, Sgt. Josh Sarpu, has been serving in Iraq ever since 2018. Sgt. Sarpu has never met his baby girl.
Nonetheless, that didn’t stop Cassie from making sure her daughter knew what her daddy looked like and sounded like.
As GMA reports, Cassie decorated Savannah’s crib with pictures of Sgt. Sarpu and when she was sick at four months old, the only thing that would calm her down was a recording of her dad’s voice.
But even after having her and her husband’s story shared with all who were watching, that still wasn’t the best part.
As Strahan told Cassie, although her family really did want her to know just how strong she is and how proud they are of her, the real surprise was behind one of the studio walls.
In a highly emotional reunion, Sgt. Josh Sarpu was able to come home early, surprising Cassie and meeting Savannah for the very first time on live television.
Watching the beautiful reunion below:
Slightly overwhelmed by all the commotion, Savannah didn’t know how to react at first.
You can hear Cassie in the background telling their baby girl, “That’s daddy.” The audience let out a collective “awe” the many times Savannah was caught staring at her dad in wonder.
Sgt. Sarpu said he’s “so thankful everything worked out,” when it came to surprising his wife and daughter.
And now the pair can enjoy Cassie’s first Mother’s Day together as a family.
