Allentown, Pennsylvania police are now looking for 16-year-old girl Amy Yu after her mom reported her missing.
According to ABC 6, authorities believe Yu is with a 45-year-old married man named Kevin Esterly. His wife told the police that she hasn’t seen him since 6:00 a.m. on the morning of March 5, the same day Yu allegedly ran away.
As the Allentown Morning Call reports, an arrest warrant is now out for Esterly for interference with the custody of a child.
Yu and Esterly, who met in church, are believed to be involved in a “secret relationship,” and this isn’t the first time the police have been involved.ABC 6
According to court documents obtained by the Allentown Morning Call, Yu’s mother called police two different times, once on February 9 and again on February 15, in an attempt to keep Esterly away from her daughter.
On February 9, Esterly allegedly signed Yu out of school without her parents’ permission, and it wasn’t the first time he had done it.
Yu told authorities that Esterly signed her out of school around five different times, but the school’s records show that between November 13 and February 9, Esterly signed Yu out of school a total of 10 times.
On February 15, Yu’s mother called police again. This time officers had to go to Yu’s house to tell Esterly and his wife to stay away. It’s unclear why both Esterly and his wife were there in the first place.
The CEO of Yu’s school, Lehigh Valley Academy, told Allentown Morning Call that she is investigating to see if all “protocol” was appropriately followed in this particular case. She said:
“A student can be picked up only by someone on the emergency contact list that is provided by the parents.”
Authorities revealed that on the morning of March 5, the day Yu was reporting missing, Esterly withdrew $4,000 from his wife’s account and took personal documents from the home. Jewelry and personal documents are missing from Yu’s room as well.
The pair could be in the 45-year-old’s 1999 red Honda Accord.
