When you think of a good teacher, you think of a strong leader who looks out for their students’ best interests and conveys a positive message.
Well, 8th grade math teacher Nicole Wilfinger, 37, from Las Vegas’s Molasky Junior High School is anything but that.
For one, Wilfinger has just been hit with three heavy charges of sexual misconduct with a student:Image Credit: Las Vegas Review-Journal / Molasky Junior High

Wilfinger faces one charge of sexual seduction by a person older than 21, one charge of engaging in sexual conduct with a student between 14 and 15 years of age, one charge of engaging in sexual conduct with a student between 16 and 17 years of age and three charges of lewdness with a child older than 14.

While Wilfinger’s case is disturbing, unfortunately it’s not out of the ordinary.
In 2014, there were 781 reported cases of teachers and other school employees accused or convicted of sexual relationships with students, according to The Washington Post.
Many believe there is a reason why this conduct has ballooned over the last 10 years: social media.Image Credit: Wikimedia
According to The Post, 36% of those accused and/or convicted of having an inappropriate relationships with a student used social media to start or facilitate those relationships.
In an effort to prevent situations like Wilfinger’s from ever occurring, states are creating laws that prohibit teachers and students from ‘friending’ one another on social media sites.
As for Wilfinger, the faculty contacted parents to inform them of her arrest.
Her court date is set for this upcoming Saturday morning.
Hopefully she doesn’t bring her bling.
