Christina and Tarek El Moussa first met at a real estate office. They married in 2009 and have been buying and selling houses in Southern California together ever since.

Their HGTV show “Flip or Flop” first aired in 2013. It chronicles the story of their joint real estate company, as well as their marriage.

This year, amid a very public divorce, the El Moussas filmed Season 7. As of the time of this writing, only five episodes, in contrast to 16 episodes in Season 6, are currently scheduled to air.

The season has received some criticism from fans. Many viewers claim the new season feels forced after the couple announced their separation in December 2016.

But one viewer noticed something very different.

After reviewing the entire season, Dearly noticed Tarek never called Christina his wife. The fan likely watched a previous season episode where Tarek introduces Christina in the introduction of the show.

But in Episode 3, Tarek went shopping for supplies with his daughter. He called her “mommy” to the young girl. The lack of personal titles throughout was a noticeable shift from prior seasons.

Dearly reached out to both HGTV and Pie Town Productions to learn more about the production timelines for Season 7, but neither company responded by the time of publication.

HGTV noticed an uptick in viewers after the separation. The network renewed the show’s contract in April. “Flip or Flop” is scheduled to air 20 episodes beginning in December. They are currently filming for the new season.

Tarek recently told Us Weekly that co-parenting is going well, but he still struggles when his kids spend time with Christina’s boyfriends:

“I can’t control it, and if I try, I’ll literally drive myself crazy. The best thing to do is let things go. When they’re not with me, it’s their other life with Christina. That’s when she’s in charge.”

Tarek explained that the two had re-evaluated their marriage in 2016 and decided to separate. He said it was difficult to manage at first, but that the couple is working through the rough patches for the sake of their kids and their company.

It appears that in Season 7, both the “Flip or Flop” fans and hosts are having a difficult time separating the El Moussa’s relationship from the renovations. Only time will tell how the dynamic changes in Season 8.
