It’s been a rough year for television veteran Steve Harvey. The “Family Feud” host, with a series of blunders, has met with some heavy public backlash.

From making racist jokes to sending a scathing, open letter to his staff, Harvey has been getting slammed on social media.

And now, he’s landed in hot water yet again after a conversation with a fan on his morning radio show went viral.

Harvey was chatting with a man from Flint, the Michigan city that has long been affected by a water crisis, on “The Steve Harvey Morning Show” Wednesday.

And it wasn’t long before the water “jokes” started pouring in.

According to USA Today, the Flint man took a jab at the Cleveland Cavaliers for losing the NBA finals earlier this week, and Harvey didn’t appreciate the caller’s insult to his favorite team.

So he fired back at the caller (emphasis added):

“You from Flint? That’s why y’all ain’t even got clean water. When was the last time you touched water and it didn’t have lead in it?”

His co-host could be heard laughing in the background, and eventually asked Harvey to apologize for the comment. But he kept going:

“I wasn’t talking about the city of Flint, I was talking about him. He going to call in, say Cleveland don’t deserve jack, and he over there bathing in all that silver water.”

Just as the Flint man was getting off the line, Harvey threw in a final blow (emphasis added):

“One more thing… Enjoy your nice brown glass of water.”

As expected, Harvey’s comments didn’t go over to well with Flint residents. According to Fox2, the Flint mayor herself wrote an open letter condemning Harvey. Karen Weaver wrote:

“As Mayor of the City of Flint, and someone who has been on your show and spoken with you personally about the Flint Water Crisis, I was deeply saddened by your comments about our city. While I feel it was not meant to be an intentional hurt or insult against the citizens of this community, it was.”

The mayor also went on to ask Harvey to deliver a public apology to the citizens of Flint.

And the backlash was just as harsh online. Many Twitter users had a lot to say about Harvey and his latest blunder:

The “Family Feud” host has since issued a statement about the comments, but it didn’t include an apology. Harvey said:

“The caller and I were talking trash about our teams and cities. ‘SIMPLY TRASH TALKING ABOUT SPORTS’. I made a joke directed at him, as he is from Flint, a city for which I have great affection and respect…

The and [sic] the caller laughed as my joke was taken in the context it was offered. Any attempts to craft this into anything more serves no one.”

Harvey also mentioned his past efforts to raise awareness about the Flint water crisis.

No word yet if Harvey plans on apologizing for these new polarizing comments.
