An Indiana school district investigated a troubling fight between students and a teacher at Clay High School in South Bend after footage of the incident went viral.
According to the South Bend Tribune, a student posted a now-deleted video of a brawl that broke out between several kids in a classroom last week.
The video, however, led to various controversies when a teacher can be seen stepping into the fight.
An educator identified as Dwight Mood tried breaking up the attack but responded to the violence by striking the teens.

On Friday WNDU, posted the video to Facebook. The teacher who was recorded repeatedly hitting students and holding one in a chokehold was placed on administrative leave.
South Bend Schools released a statement following the social media post, reports WSBT:
The video shared on Facebook was troubling and does not reflect the safe learning environment in our schools.
Safety is our top priority; we do not condone violent behavior among students or staff …
We have taken appropriate measures consistent with the student code of conduct. Pending the outcome of our investigation, the staff member involved has been placed on administrative leave.
However, several parents of students at Clay High School said the administration should stand behind Mood — who’s also seen in the footage trying to end the fight between two students.
One parent wrote on Facebook:
My daughter showed this to me after school. I am so sure the teacher is going to be hauled into court for this crap. Now, someone please tell me how in the hell a teacher is suppose to defend themselves and other students? …
My daughter goes to Clay. I am sorry, but I am for the teacher in this one. The kids, their mouths, attitudes, and entitlement issues are out of control. Let my daughter step to a grown person like that or not have respect for a whole classroom of other people; she won’t like what she comes home too.

Mood is probably one of the best teachers out there. He was under attack and did what he had to do. I stand with him and his actions.
An online petition was created for the teacher. Online supporters said it was “bogus” for “one of the few teachers that take their time with students” to be “fired” for protecting himself and other kids.
As previously reported by Dearly, Mood is the second teacher who was defended for punching a student in the classroom.
Clay High School is conducting an internal investigation and has notified authorities following the incident.
The petition has gained as many as 3,287 signatures.
