Country powerhouse Shania Twain has been known to have a pointed meaning behind a song or two. Just recently, the “You’re Still The One” singer seemed to target her ex, Mutt Lange, in her newest single, “Life’s About to Get Good.”
But it looks like that’s not the only single based on a boy. Back in 1997, Twain released one of her most popular hits, “That Don’t Impress Me Much.”
She famously included the line “OK, so you’re Brad Pitt? That don’t impress me much,” leading fans to speculate what about the “Fight Club” actor was so unimpressive.
Now, the singer is finally addressing what motivated her to pen the hit line. On Thursday, the chart-topping artist revealed to Billboard her inspiration behind the song — Brad Pitt’s naked body.
She first heard about Pitt’s birthday suit before writing the song, explaining:
“I remember I had a girlfriend visiting me and it was near Christmas and we were baking cookies. I was writing this album and there was a scandal of [Pitt] and Gwyneth [Paltrow] where there was naked photos of him.”
Pitt’s leaked nude photos caused quite the scandal. That same year, Pitt sued Playgirl after the adult magazine ran his photos without his consent, TMZ reported.Vinnie Zuffante/Getty Images
People couldn’t stop buzzing about a nude Pitt, Twain added, though the singer didn’t really understand why:
“I just thought, ‘I don’t know what all the fuss is about.’ I’m like, well that don’t impress me much, I mean what is all the fuss?”
She insisted she wasn’t “picking” on the actor necessarily — she simply couldn’t buy into the hype:
“We see people naked every day. That’s really what I thought. But that was just the association in that moment and things we make fusses about and whatever.”
However, it seems like she didn’t entirely mind the view, adding that the inspiration could have been any “gorgeous” man.
Looks like this 20-year mystery is solved, people.
