Serena Williams played tennis before she became a mom, when she was a soon-to-be mom, and now that she is the mom to a nine-month-old baby.
Earlier this week was Williams’ first major tennis match since giving birth to Alexis Olympia Ohanian.
On May 29, Williams defeated Czech Republic’s Kristýna Plíšková to win her first Grand Slam match in over a year. And she did so all while looking and feeling like a “superhero” in a black Nike bodysuit.
She described how her custom outfit made her feel to the BBC:
“I feel like a warrior wearing it, a queen from Wakanda [referring to the Black Panther movie] maybe. It was comfortable to wear. I’m always living in a fantasy world. I always wanted to be a superhero, and it’s kind of my way of being a superhero.”
Williams then took to Twitter with an encouraging note to all the other moms out there:
Catsuit anyone? For all the moms out there who had a tough recovery from pregnancy—here you go. If I can do it, so can you. Love you all!! pic.twitter.com/xXb3BKDGNF

The 36-year-old wrote:

And hundreds of her followers agreed that the new mom looked like a superhero. Many of them called her their inspiration:
I’ve said it before and I will say it again “Mother Serena” is the most beautiful version of Serena yet

Nothing to do with money dear. It’s about body image after birth and not being ashamed of that body you have because of public opinion. There I fixed it for you and you’re welcome ?

RIGHT? She’s probably the closest thing to a superhero I’ve ever seen in real life. 😉

I can imagine that breastfeeding and being the best athlete in the world is a tremendous difficult task. You are a hero regardless of what happens in this tournament. #GoSerena

During her interview with BBC, Serena revealed that things are slightly different for her in terms of how she prepares for competition now that she is a mom.
She said she would normally spend a lot of time on the court before a big match, but now she is stealing some of that time to “hang out” with her baby girl.
