Former talk show host Ricki Lake is opening up her heart to love again.
As People reports, in 2017, Lake lost her second husband — Christian Evans, whom she divorced in 2015 — to suicide. The former pair was married from 2012 to 2015.
Lake told People:
“My husband, who passed from mental illness and suicide, it’ll be two years on February 11.”
In the month following Evans tragic passing, Lake opened up about the late jewelry designer and his battle with bipolar disorder.
Lake told People in 2017 that it was his mental illness and manic episodes that ultimately led to their divorce but that they had remained together up until his death:
“I have to spread the word about recognizing this disorder and getting treatment as soon as possible. Christian didn’t want to be labeled as bipolar, but he admitted he was in the note he left. That was him finally owning it. That was him giving me permission to tell his story.”
“He wasn’t stable, and he was so fragile. But I was still in love with him, so there was something romantic about it. I wanted to save him.”
Unfortunately, Lake couldn’t save Evans. She was on a business trip in London when she received a call from Evans’ sister on February 11, 2017, saying that Evans had just emailed her a suicide note.
Two days later, Evans’ body was found in his car.
Lake decided to tell her husband’s story in order to help others who are also battling mental illness.
Now, the 50-year-old is revealing to People two years later that she has found love again with Jeff Scult, founder of the clothing brand One Golden Thread.
Lake said of her new relationship:
“…I just recently found a brilliant new love. […]
He’s making me really happy. We’ve been together for three-and-a-half months. We met through a mutual friend.”
She recently posted this snapshot of herself out to dinner with Scult on Instagram:
Lake captioned the photo:
This is what happy looks like.
This new relationship comes just months after the actress said she was ready to find a real love like she had with Evans again.
However, even with a new love interest, the former talk show host is continuing to keep the memory of her former husband alive while a contestant on Fox’s new show, “The Masked Singer.”
During her farewell speech on the show on February 6, Lake — who was dressed as a raven — told the viewers:
“For me, the raven and what it represented [was] the loss of my husband. So much of the last year-and-a-half has been getting over my darkest, terrible loss. It really resonated with me.
It was a lot fun. It was really fun to sing again and to have this production value. And being anonymous and getting to do something that was very public was a thrill. And I was also happy to be done. I was in so much pain in the end. I wasn’t the best singer, but I wasn’t the worst. But I loved my costume and I loved my story. I got to share my story about my husband who passed away. It was a real cathartic experience.”
