Arizona dog-mom Paula Godwin was out for a walk last Friday with her two pups when she was confronted with a rattlesnake.

She wrote on Facebook that her six-month-old pup Todd “jumped right in front of [her] leg” to absorb the oncoming rattlesnake bite that Godwin nearly sustained.

Posting photos of the aftermath of Todd’s battle with the rattlesnake, Godwin wrote:

This is what a hero looks like.

Todd has now gone viral for his selfless act of heroism:

With thousands of thoughts and well wishes directed toward Todd, the pupper is healing speedily.

Godwin posted an update days after the incident reporting that Todd is healing wonderfully:

She later added her gratitude for the outpouring of support, writing online:

Thank you so much seriously wow Todd is recovering so well this was yesterday at the park .  ❤thavkyou for all the sweet kind words my sweet Todd for sure is my hero and I feel I jave to say that the man up stairs  ☝surely is watching out for me to. Praise to him too.

Friends of the Godwin family set up a GoFundMe page to help raise money for other dogs and owners who may need anti-venom in the case of a poisonous bite.
