It’s that time again, a time when kids kiss summer vacation goodbye and wave hello to yet another school year.
And that doesn’t change if you’re a celebrity.
On July 31, one of the stars of “Mama June: From Not to Hot,” Lauryn “Pumpkin” Shannon took to Instagram to wish her little sister, Alana “Honey Boo Boo” Thompson the best as she embarks on her first day of high school.
As Dearly previously reported, Alana has been living with Pumpkin, Pumpkin’s husband, and their daughter over the last few months.
As their reality show on WEtv followed, Pumpkin sought temporary custody of her 13-year-old sister after their mother, Mama June, struggled with her heath, her relationship with her boyfriend Geno, and got arrested.
Pumpkin said of her mom’s arrest, at the time:
“Hey guys, as you know, you’ve seen the stuff out in the media and our family is going through a rough patch. But this year alone we have had a lot of happiness. And when my mom and Alana were out in California and everything seemed good. Then the next couple months rolled around and things took a turn. We’re sharing our story in hopes that it helps another family and I sincerely want to thank our fans for always being there and loving and supporting us.”
And five months after receiving temporary custody of Alana, Pumpkin is letting everyone know just how proud she is of her “little sister/daughter.”
Well, everyone, my little sister/ daughter is going to be a freshman in high school starting tomorrow morning. Where has the time gone? So excited to be going through this big adventure with you. Love you bunches Atlanta.
And hundreds of her followers took the opportunity to praise Pumpkin for the life she is giving her little sister at just 19 years old.
So much respect for how you’ve handled everything. Watched you all since the 1st episode of here comes honey boo boo. No one knows what goes on behind anyone’s closed doors. So keep looking after each other.
Thanks for stepping up Pumpkin! What a great big sister you are!
Awe. That’s awesome! She is so blessed to have you and Josh. Best big sister ever!!!!!
You’re an amazing big sister, she’s very lucky to have you.
I love that you call her your daughter too.
This will be Alana’s first full year in public school since she was homeschooled by her mother for much of her young life.
