Dr. Belinda George is the principal at Homer Drive Elementary in Texas.

According to PopSugar, this is Dr. George’s first year as principal. And she is garnering a lot of praise for the work she has put into the school and her students so far.

Most notably, people are gushing over George’s “Tucked-in-Tuesdays.”

As the Washington Post reports, the principal came up with the idea when she couldn’t know for sure if all 680 of her students were being read to at home.

So she came up with the idea to use her school’s Facebook page to go on Facebook Live every Tuesday night at 7:30 p.m., while in her pajamas, and read a bedtime story to as many of her 680 students as she can.

The educator started the weekly series this past December. She also gives shout-outs to those students who are tuning in each week in an effort to make it as personal as possible.

George told the Washington Post that “Tucked-in-Tuesdays” have become very popular:

“Kids will come up to me Wednesday and say, ‘Dr. George, I saw you in your PJs reading!’ They’ll tell me their favorite part of the book.”

Now, it is more than just Homer Drive Elementary students who are watching George’s Live videos.

As the Washington Post reports, comments on the videos reveal that kids from all over the country are listening to George read bedtime stories.

Facebook has even praised Dr. George for her work, saying:

We’re big fans of Tucked-in Tuesdays! We love hearing all the character voices, excited to see what book you choose tomorrow.

However, the principal isn’t doing any of this for the notoriety. Quite the contrary, she said:

“The bottom line is I love, love kids. I know if I don’t reach them outside of school I never reach them in school.”

George also wants her students to know that she has high expectations of them.

She continued:

“I understand some of these kids will never go to college, but I don’t want them to feel like they’re not successful. Whatever you choose, just be good at it. If you’re a ditch digger, be the best ditch digger there is.”

Will you and your children be tuning into Dr. George’s “Tucked-in-Tuesday” tonight at 7:30 p.m.?

You are a wonderful Principal! Your students will remember your act of kindness their whole lives. I’m sure some of those children haven’t had anyone read a bedtime story to them before, let alone their principal! These children will know you as someone they can trust, and believe in. Keep up the great job! I think you should travel around the country and spread your ideas to other school systems. If not in person, perhaps on YouTube or other social media sites!
