Fans all over the world were shocked at the news that iconic rocker Prince had passed away.
Throughout his career, Prince received seven Grammy Awards and 38 Grammy nominations for hits such as “Little Red Corvette,” “1999,” and, of course, “Purple Rain,” wherein he details wanting to see his lover laughing and bathing in, well, purple rain.
His unexpected death at age 57 sent fans into mourning, gathering to remember the talented musician.
Since his overdose on April 21, 2016, many things have been called into question about the famed rocker. Who gave him the drugs? Who was responsible? Who would inherit his estate?
But one thing about the artist that few questioned was his favorite color — until now.
According to NPR, even though Prince was known at “The Purple One,” his favorite color was actually orange.
SAY WHAT?
According to CNN, one of Prince’s sisters, Tyka Nelson, was speaking to the Evening Standard about an upcoming London show that will feature some of the rocker’s artifacts.
She told the publication:
“The standout piece for me is his orange Cloud guitar. It is strange because people always associate the color purple with Prince, but his favorite color was actually orange.”
Looking back now, maybe orange really was his favorite color. Peep these photos from his Instagram:
Yup, there definitely seems to have been a trend there.
It’s possible that Prince never intended to be so closely associated with the color purple that Pantene would name a shade in his honor.
Or maybe wanting to see his lover laughing and bathing in the orange rain just didn’t pack quite the punch.
