Cora Patterson, 19, was pregnant with her first child and excitedly shared the news with her father, Colin.

Growing up, Cora’s parents were separated. But even though her dad wasn’t around as much as she would’ve liked, she always had a “real soft spot” for him. Despite the fact that her father was in and out of prison while Cora was growing up, she always hoped he would change.

When she told Colin she was pregnant, Cora said:

“Dad was over the moon. It was his first grandchild and he told me it would be a fresh start for him.”

However, less than a month after the fact, Cora said she spotted her dad on CCTV robbing an elderly woman’s home.

When she saw an appeal on Facebook asking for help identifying the criminals, Cora bravely stepped forward. She commented on the Facebook post:

I’ll tell you the f**king names, Colin Patterson and Janine Patterson, absolutely ashamed to call them my dad and auntie.

She explained her actions to the Sun:

“I felt so angry and ashamed and I posted their names and details on Facebook. I was devastated and I felt so bad for the people whose home he had burgled. I felt at rock bottom.”

When asked if she was absolutely positive, she replied:

110% he’s just even texted me saying thanks but don’t feel guilty, I definitely don’t after the sh*t he’s put me thru. And I hope he’s still reading these comments because I’m absolutely devastated.

Colin reached out to Cora shortly after, texting:

Thanks cora but i still love u n dont feel guilty at end of it all u wont see me agen now but ill always love u n pls dont feel guilty just keep this text right bye cora x

Initially, Cora feared that her dad was going to commit suicide due to news of his arrest. However, she instead came to a different conclusion, telling the Sun:

“[H]e was just selfish and attention-seeking. I certainly wasn’t the one who should be feeling guilty.”

The judge who ruled in the case, Timothy Stead, recognized Cora’s bravery. He said:

“It does take some serious courage to do that. As far as I’m concerned, she should be commended.”

According to the Sun, Colin was sentenced to four years in prison.

Cora has since given birth to a beautiful baby girl. Of her dad, she said: “Dad has let me down once too often. He doesn’t deserve to be in my baby’s life at all.”
