YouTube star Austin Jones has garnered a massive following on social media thanks to his boyish looks and popular a cappella pop song covers.

The 24-year-old is a massive hit with teenage girls and currently has over 500,000 subscribers on his YouTube channel and more than 300,000 followers on Instagram.

But now, the singer is behind bars.

According to Alternative Press, Jones has had a troubling history when it comes to underage fans.

In 2015, the singer was accused of lying about his age and requesting “twerking videos” from girls as young as 13. Jones eventually addressed the backlash in a YouTube video entitled, “Setting the Record Straight.”

In the video, the singer admitted to requesting the videos from fans:

“It’s not something that I’m proud of, it’s not something that I think is right, and I shouldn’t have done it.”

No legal action resulted from the “twerking video” allegations, but Jones allegedly reached out to underage fans again.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Joseph Fitzpatrick told People that Jones solicited inappropriate videos from underage fans in August 2016 and again in May 2017.

Now, he’s facing real consequences.

Jones was arrested in Chicago earlier this week and taken into custody on two counts of producing child pornography, according to People.

The Chicago Sun-Times reported that the singer is accused of requesting that underage girls send him pornographic videos over social media, so that they could “prove” that they were true fans.

Jones interacted with a 14-year-old victim over Facebook on May 4, and she sent him roughly 15 videos. In at least 10 of the videos, the young teen exposed herself.

According to a criminal complaint, the singer repeatedly asked the girl to mention she was “only 14” and told her how to adjust the camera so he could see her whole body.

Another victim, to whom Jones spoke in August, sent him roughly 25 videos. Jones admitted to requesting the videos after his arrest, according to the Sun-Times.

The arrest sparked a massive response on social media. Many Twitter users seemed happy that Jones was behind bars:

The YouTube star is currently in federal custody and will attend a hearing on Wednesday. He currently faces up to 15 years in prison.
