A Houston mom shares her heartbreaking plea for help in identifying the gunman who shot and killed her 7-year-old while in the car near the E. Sam Houston Parkway in Texas.

Jazmine Barnes’ mother, LaPorsha Washington, told KTRK she was going for an early morning coffee run on Sunday morning around 7 a.m. when a random driver in a pick-up truck pulled up beside her and opened fire on her family and kept shooting.

At the sound of rapid-fire, Washington, 30, threw herself over her eldest daughter and told her three other children in the back seat to get down, reports CNN.  Washington explained to KTRK:

“As I turned around and looked back at the street, I heard shots start firing and they came through my window, broke my glass, and hit me in my arm.”

She added:

“They sped off in front of us and the truck slowed down and continued to fire as he was in front of us.”

Though Washington shielded one of her teenage girls from the gunshots, she couldn’t protect her youngest.

When the shooting stopped, the mother-of-three looked in her back-seat and made a startling discovery. Her 7-year-old was shot in the head and killed in the unprovoked shooting.

Watch Washington describe the fatal incident that took her daughter’s life below:

Washington said:

“It was not fair. The shots came through my window. It broke my glass. I don’t even know how my baby got shot.”

She added:

“I turn around and my 7-year-old was shot in the head.He intentionally killed my child for no reason.

He didn’t even know her, he didn’t know who she was.”

According to ABC News, police called the attack a “random and senseless” shooting. Sheriff Ed Gonzalez of Harris County told CNN reporters:

“We’re going to leave every motive out there as a possibility. There was nothing to indicate that the family did anything wrong in any way. They were simply just driving along the service road when this happened to them.”

The murder of the 7-year-old caught the attention of several celebrities.

Authorities are asking for help in identifying the girl’s killer. Investigators have described the suspect as a bearded white male, possibly in his 40s.

The shooter was driving a red four-door pickup truck with no plates.

A $35,000 reward has been offered to find the gunman. Anyone with information is urged to call 911 or tweet at @CrimeStopHOU or call 713-222-TIPS.
