Model and outspoken mother Chrissy Teigen just welcomed a newborn baby boy on May 17. Now, she’s getting some backlash for her choice of bassinet.
Teigen, who has two children with singer John Legend, surprised fans with the birth announcement. The 32-year-old wasn’t due to have her first baby boy until June, Dearly previously reported.
The couple revealed the big news with an adorable photo of the infant on Teigen’s Instagram.
She captioned the photo:
Hello, world! This is Miles Theodore Stephens – We are drowning in his little peeps and nuzzles. Our household feels overwhelmed with love. Thank you for all your well wishes!
And it seems his two-year-old big sister, Luna, is thrilled to have a new sibling.
On Monday, Teigen posted a photo of the little girl spending some quality time with her baby brother, who was cozied up in a bassinet.
Some fans were quick to compliment the mom on her cute kids, but seemed concerned about the bedding that the model chose for her newborn baby boy, according to Cafe Mom.
The thick, fuzzy material he was laying on seemed dangerous to some. One Instagram user wrote:
Precious boy! Just a reminder, I’m sure you are aware that it’s best that baby sleeps on a flat surface, no fluffy stuff, toys, blankets etc. to prevents SIDS. Better to be safe. Love your family!
This bassinet worries me, it’s a little too plush for a newborn.
According to the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP), newborn babies should only sleep on firm surfaces with tight fitting sheets.
Parents should also keep their newborns away from loose or soft materials that could potentially cause suffocation.
In March, a three-month-old in Arkansas died after his mother and boyfriend put him on a soft pillow that caused him to suffocate. They were charged with second-degree murder.
Teigen has not spoken out about the bedding concerns.
