A representative for actor David Cassidy announced Saturday that the actor is experiencing failure of multiple organs. He is surrounded by family at a Florida hospital, where he has been since earlier this week.
The rep confirmed the news to Page Six:
“This is true. He is conscious now and surrounded by family.”
TMZ provided further details:
We’re told he’s suffering from organ failure and unless he gets a liver transplant soon he could soon die. We’re also told he’s suffering from kidney failure.
David, we’re told, was in an induced coma but is now in and out of consciousness.
Cassidy revealed in February that he was suffering from dementia; he has also opened up about past struggles with alcohol abuse. His health has taken a turn for the worse over the past two months.
Reflecting on his health problems in an interview with Dr. Phil in February and how he had to watch his mother go through the devastating effects of dementia, Cassidy explained what he told his son, Beau:
“I want you to promise me you’ll find a way to let me go. Don’t let me live like that.”
Cassidy is best known for his role as Keith Partridge in “The Partridge Family” TV series. He continued acting when the series ended, as well as launched a music career. You can watch one of his best-known performances below.
