Roxane Cartwright and her husband Tim adopted a baby girl last year. The following day, Sept. 2, 2016, the Cartwright family went to celebrate at IHOP.
In an interview with the Bismarck Tribune, Roxane said she was waiting for a table inside the Fargo location when a woman approached her and asked to hold the baby. The woman was trembling and kept repeating:
“She’s exactly what I want.”
Roxane noted that the situation made her feel uncomfortable. One of Roxane’s sons approached the woman and said, “That’s my sister Sofia,” to try to let her know her family was nearby. But she replied:
“Sofia, that’s the name. That’s exactly what I want.”
Roxane decided to step in and got between the woman and the baby, who had been sitting in a relative’s lap. The mom picked up the baby and pretended to breastfeed. Fortunately, the woman went away.
Then, this year, Roxane was surprised to see the woman’s face again. This time, her picture was posted after her arrest in connection with Savanna Lafontaine-Greywind, the expectant mom who went missing in Fargo on Aug. 19 and was found dead 10 days later.
Roxane told the Tribune that she’s nearly 100 percent certain the woman was Greywind’s 38-year-old neighbor Brooke Crews.
She told the publication:
“It was the most bizarre situation I’ve ever been in […] My hair stood up. I knew right away it was her.”
As previously reported by Dearly, Greywind went missing after she went upstairs to help her neighbor on a sewing project.

A newborn baby was found in Crews’s apartment on Aug. 24. Crews and her 32-year-old boyfriend, William Henry Hoehn, were arrested.
DNA testing is underway to determine if the baby is Greywind’s, but police suspect based on interviews with the suspects that it is her baby.
On Aug. 27, a body-shaped object was found wrapped in plastic and duct tape floating under a tree on the Red River. Later that evening, the body was identified as Greywind’s.
The Fargo Police Department announced on Aug. 29 that preliminary reports show that Greywind had died from “homicidal violence,” yet they have not commented on the manner of death.

Investigators are still working to determine the timeline, location, and manner of Greywind’s disappearance and death. As the investigation is ongoing, stories such as Roxane’s may help in better understanding the suspects.
Crews has been charged with conspiracy to commit murder, conspiracy to commit kidnapping, and for giving false information. Her bail has been set at $2 million cash.
Dearly tried to reach out to Roxane for a comment, but she had not responded by the time of publication.
