A 26-year-old Oklahoma mother is under arrest after police made a disturbing discovery just outside her Garfield County trailer home.

According to The Okalahoman, police were contacted on April 9 about a strong “odor” coming from a dumpster near Kathryn Juanita Green’s home.

A neighbor told investigators that Green had previously asked him to dispose of a “luggage trunk” and “told him a newborn was inside.”

The neighbor thought that she was joking, but police quickly realized just how serious the matter was.

The Daily Mail reported that when police opened a wooden box inside the dumpster near her home, they found a deceased newborn child wrapped in a blanket and plastic bags.

Capt. Jack Morris of the Enid Police Department told KFOR:

“When our officers responded, they could smell the odor also, and they then discovered a newborn infant inside of that (dumpster).”

DNA testing released this week confirmed that Green was the newborn’s mother, and that the baby boy had died from methamphetamine toxicity — meaning he overdosed.

Green was later found to be in possession of the drug, though it’s unclear how it got into the baby’s system.

The newborn’s umbilical cord and placenta were still attached when he was placed inside the box.

Green’s other three children were living in deplorable conditions inside the trailer home, said Capt. Tim Jacobi.

According to Jacobi, police found:

“Clothing and trash strewn throughout the house, extension cords lying about, dirty dishes and the smell of decayed food in the kitchen, a knife, a bottle of alcohol, and prescription medication easily accessible to the children, soiled mattresses lying on the floor without bedding, and an open electrical outlet nearly touching the mattress in one of the children’s rooms.”

The mother of three has since been charged with second-degree murder, unauthorized disposal of a corpse, child neglect, drug possession, and obstructing an officer.

It’s unclear what will happen to the baby boy’s body now that he’s been found, or if he’ll finally be able to have a proper burial.
