‘You’re Going to Die Today Old Woman’: Niece Is Charged With Trying to Kill Aunt by Lack of Oxygen

Lackawanna County Police

Pennsylvania 77-year-old Josephine Delucia stopped receiving mail from her bank for sometime in November so her niece offered to drive her to the local PNC.

However, 44-year-old Carrie Trowbridge didn’t have any intention of actually bringing her aunt to the bank, WNEP reports.

The niece had a plan to kill her elderly aunt, who relies on an oxygen tank to survive because she was a longtime smoker.

Trowbridge knew her aunt only had about an hour’s worth of oxygen in her tank when she got into the car with her to go to PNC.

With that knowledge, she kept the 77-year-old in the car for ten hours. At times, she pinched her aunt’s nose, according to police.

Court documents reveal she told Delucia:

“I have your statements in my purse. You think I’m stealing your money? You’re going to die today old woman, and I’m going to watch you!”

Delucia was unable to escape the car so she pretended to be dead. Trowbridge then drove back to the home and her aunt was able to escape.

Trowbridge has since been arrested. She was charged this week with attempted homicide, forgery, and reckless endangerment.

The niece stood to gain financially from her aunt’s death, according to police.

Delucia said her niece opened a credit card in her name without permission and took $15,000 from her bank account.

The aunt removed her as a beneficiary upon realizing what her niece had done.

Tina Rutcavage, an area resident, told WNEP:

“How can you do that to your own relative? I mean, it is very sad. I mean, she’s dying for money that bad she has to kill her aunt.”

It’s unclear if the 77-year-old sustained any health problems from being deprived of oxygen.

  1. I hate to say it, but I have a family member who has done something similar to this. I wish I could have her charged with a crime. I am working on getting a criminal warrant. It’s sad when you have family members who are so disgusting and cruel that all they see is how they can take advantage of an elderly person to steal their money. Hopefully, this woman will get a long jail sentence for her crimes.

  2. She needs to be put away for at least 20 years. 10 for theft and 10 for attempted murder. Sentences to run consecutive with no time off for good behavior.

  3. I am so sorry her aunt had to endure this trauma. Thank God the aunt is at least 10 times smarter than her niece, plus people usually underestimate elderly people. Old does not always mean fragile, confused and weak. Good for the aunt and I pray she recovers fully!
