Nicole Curtis Shares Custody Struggle After Ex Allegedly Rips Sick Son From Her Arms on Thanksgiving

Nicole Curtis is making the best of her rough custody agreement by sharing her struggles with other single parents.

As People reports, the star of HGTV and DIY Network’s “Rehab Addict” faced her most recent co-parenting challenge on Thanksgiving. Curtis’ ex, Shane Maguire, allegedly “ripped” their 3-year-old son, Harper, from her arms on Thanksgiving Day.

Curtis said this was especially difficult because her son was sick at the time.

She told People:

“I can’t express in words what it feels like looking at your sick baby and being told that a ‘parenting time’ schedule trumps their well-being. I woke up Thanksgiving morning and thanked God that I was able to have that time with him. I arrived at the airport and literally had my baby ripped out of my arms and whisked away as I was ‘screwing up’ Thanksgiving plans. The cycle never ends.”

Curtis shared a post discussing her lack of holiday plans and parenting challenges.

So thankful to be mom go these two. I’ve been asked what my Thanksgiving plans are and receive horrified looks when I say nothing. Don’t get me wrong-it’s me for God’s sake -the protector of formal dining rooms, of course, every bone in my body yearns to cook, entertain and stuff myself full of my gram’s pie recipe that I never will get just right -but like so many others we are trapped in the fd world of “not your parenting time”. So, while I gladly and happily wish all a blessed Thanksgiving who celebrate it like I dream of doing so -my words are here today to tell the rest of you, like us, you’re not alone -I certainly never expected to be in this situation & would have my ex at my dining room table today (still as my ex,don’t get me wrong😂), but it’s not up to me. And if you are the parent that refuses to allow your child the joy of having both parents in the same room (sans abusive/dangerous situation) —buck up -it’s not about you. Gave someone that talk yesterday -got me nowhere, but no one ever said I wasn’t persistent 🙂 so, be safe, spread love today and I must add that if you have a low moment during these times I’m sending you extra ❤️ and energy-no shame-we’ve all been there #happythanksgiving

She explained to People that her reason for writing her post was to speak to parents who are sad and ashamed of their situation. The star hopes to encourage them to continue to fight for their kids because “children deserve better.”

22 years of motherhood has taught me a few tricks -1. There is no one way to parent 2. The minute you open your mouth to criticize another parent best look around guarantee that’s the moment your child is having their turn at being “that” child -so don’t 3. you can’t spoil a child with love 4. Babies cry for a reason 5. Practice what you preach -if you don’t want your child glued to a phone, tv, etc 🤷‍♀️6. You and your child will always benefit from running around outside like wild animals 7. The thing they want most is …you 8. Teenagers are just tall toddlers (promise you if you practice the same rules of engagement you will survive) 9. There’s never enough people to love your child —my child’s fav person is our neighbor he calls Grama 🙂 10. Be prepared-If you’re a parent like me that practices #attachedparenting #cosleeping #babyledweaning, said no to circumcision -you will be called a whack job, quack and everything else oh and told you’re “not normal”& guess what —that’s okay 🙂 we are growing in numbers through understanding and education everyday :). ****im adding 11. Practice sign language with your babies -it eliminates so much frustration as they ❤️ to communicate with signs before speaking —and its a skill that will be a lifelong asset

Curtis said that over the years, lots of single parents have contacted her because they impressed by holiday and soccer game photos with her oldest son’s father, Steven Cimini. She acknowledges the work it took for the former lovers to get to that point for the sake of their child.

As the Detroit News reports, Maguire filed for and was awarded joint custody of Harper in December 2015. Maguire allegedly denied Curtis time with their son last Easter as well.
