English reality TV star, Gary “Gaz” Beadle, just welcomed his child with partner Emma McVey.

In August 2017, the “Geordie Shore” cast member announced in an Instagram post that he and model girlfriend, McVey, were expecting their first child together.

Beadle has gushed over fatherhood since the news was made public, even captioning the announcement: “SO SO SO excited to eventually be able to tell you all this… I AM GOING TO BE A DAD… WE ARE HAVING A BABY… I love kids and literally can’t wait for this new adventure… argghhhh literally no words SOOOO HAPPY!!!”

With millions of social media followers between the couple, reports the Daily Mail, many of the proud father’s publicly shared moments have been subject to criticism, from the petite size of McVey’s bump throughout her pregnancy to most recently, the decision to bottle-feed their newborn.

As Good to Know reports, Beadle posted a photo for followers shortly after the baby’s birth from the hospital, cradling the newborn while giving a bottle. Fans instantly questioned why the newborn wasn’t being breastfed by McVey.

Commenters reportedly wrote: “Breast is best and any midwife will tell you that especially the much older midwives, I hope your misso ends up breastfeeding, it’s a beautiful bonding experience just make her cover up.”

Another said: “Your little one is so small and already on formula? Is that why there’s no comments allowed on the picture you are feeding him? So sad to deprive a child of what is best for them out of convenience.”

The backlash was so fierce the new dad was forced to disable the comments section, according to the Daily Mail. Beadle later took to Instagram to show McVey in the hospital bed breastfeeding their son.

While Beadle didn’t address the bottle-feeding criticism directly, photos of McVey breastfeeding not-so-subtly hinted at his thoughts on the issue.

As Kidshealth reports, although the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP), American Medical Association (AMA), and the World Health Organization (WHO) recommend breastfeeding, infant formula is recognized as a healthy alternative.

Beadle and McVey each posted to Instagram announcing the birth of their son, weighing 6 lbs. 2 ounces upon arrival “with super long legs!” McVey captioned her photo.

Although the first few days of fatherhood were marred by criticism, Beadle has continued sharing his joy over the birth of his first child, even capturing the happy family getting to go home from the hospital.

According to the Daily Mail, Beadle quit MTV’s “Geordie Shore” ahead of season 16 in an effort to focus on family. In an interview with the network he revealed fatherhood and reality tv were not compatible:

“After 15 seasons of Geordie Shore, obviously I have decided to leave. I cannot be on Geordie Shore and be a dad at the same time.”

He added: “I’m just ready for that next chapter in my life and to be honest with you, I cannot wait.”
