A mother took a trip to the San Francisco Zoo with her five-year-old daughter and one-year-old son on Monday, but the family never went inside.

Instead, the 22-year-old woman pulled up, stopped her car, and started throwing things out of her car, according to KRON. Then, she shoved her daughter out onto the ground, leaving her behind as she drove off with her one-year-old son.

Samantha Patton abandoned her five-year-old child on the road just as paramedics were driving by. Thankfully, they were able to quickly spring into action and save the girl from any harm.

A man on a skateboard was also seen near the area where the girl was left.

That man, police learned, turned out to be the one-year-old boy’s father. The man helped police locate the child, who was at a babysitter’s house.

After turning herself in, Patton was charged with one felony count of child endangerment and a misdemeanor child endangerment count, according to CBS SF.

The children have been removed from Patton’s care and have been placed with Child Protective Services.
