In April, former Spice Girl Melanie “Mel B” Brown filed for a restraining order against her husband, film producer Stephen Belafonte.

The court documents were submitted just one month after Brown filed for a divorce from the father of her child.

Among a slew of claims, Brown alleged Belafonte was physically, verbally, and emotionally abusive — citing a number of incidents in which Belafonte choked, punched, and threw the singer, prevented her from receiving emergency medical attention, threatened to release sex tapes, and forced her to participate in “threesomes.”

In the documents, she stated he used Brown’s children as a negotiating tool:

“[He] threatened me with violence and threatened to destroy my life in every possible way … destroy my career and take my kids from me.”

As well as her own weakness:

“[Belafonte] beat me down to let me know he was in charge.”

Although Belafonte denied all of the accusations made against him, Brown was granted a restraining order preventing him from coming near her or her three children. Months later, it appears their volatile relationship is still just as contentious.

So naturally, the subject of her marriage with Belafonte is a sensitive one.

But leave it to her “America’s Got Talent” co-host Simon Cowell to make an inappropriate dig at the 42-year-old singer on live television.

Per People, Brown was so offended by Cowell’s comments that she stormed off stage during the live taping of the show.

After a contestant dealt with some technical difficulties throughout his performance, Cowell remarked:

“I kind of imagine this would be like Mel B’s wedding night. A lot of anticipation, not much promise or delivery.”

Within seconds, Brown picked up her drink from the judge’s table and threw it on Cowell’s face and white shirt.

She proceeded to walk off the stage, again, during a live filming of the talent competition show.

After the ordeal, she told “Entertainment Tonight” that Cowell got exactly what he deserved:

“He should know, if you say something inappropriate he’s gonna get like, stuff thrown at him.”

She did clarify, however, that she wasn’t genuinely upset with him; rather she was sticking up for herself and drawing the line in the sand:

“In a friendly way. I made sure there was no ice in it this time … just fizzy water.”

People reported that between filming, Brown called Cowell an “assh*le” to his face, to which he responded:

“Oh, whatever.”

According to People, she and Belafonte are now in the process of sorting out the terms of their divorce and custody, with Brown requesting joint legal and physical custody of their 5-year-old daughter.

Though co-parenting points to their relationship’s improvement, Cowell’s comment clearly hit a nerve with the Spice Girl, and she’s no longer afraid of sticking up for herself — both on TV and behind closed doors.
