Texas mom Ana Ester Segovia took her three daughters to church on Sunday, only to try and send them to “see Jesus” that very evening.
According to KHOU, the mother brought her children to a busy car wash in southwest Houston where she “snapped.”
Security cameras captured the moment that the mother revved up her car until it started smoking and caught on fire, said the Houston Police Department.
But instead of getting her children out, she did everything she could to keep them inside.
The 31-year-old mother grabbed their hair when they tried to escape and repeatedly shouted, “You’re going to see Jesus,” according to witnesses.
Those nearby said they could hear the children screaming inside. Car wash owner Gerardo Cortez said:
“She wouldn’t let them out of the car. The older girl tried to escape, but the mother got her back in the car. The second time, she was able to escape and get her younger sisters out, too.”
Good Samaritans at the car wash quickly came to the children’s aid, People reports.
The mother allegedly tried to flee the scene as police arrived, but was captured before she could escape.
None of the children were hurt, but the mother sustained some injuries. She could not make her recent court appearance because she is currently hospitalized for burns.
She has been charged with three counts of aggravated assault of a family member, KHOU reports.
Friends of Segovia described her as a “loving mother,” and thought that her actions were out of character.
The mother has not yet entered a plea.
