A mom is still grieving after the man believed to be responsible for her child’s death was charged.
According to Fox 6, 2-year-old Matthew Bolinski died while at an unlicensed day care in March. Now, 23-year-old Hunter Jones of Kenosha, Wisconsin has been arrested and charged with homicide in connection with Matthew’s death.
As Matthew’s mother, Katherine Bolinski, told Fox 6, while on her way to work on March 27, she dropped Matthew off at Jones’ home where he was to be watched by Jones and his wife:
“That day I dropped him off, he threw a fit like no other fit and I obviously regret having to do that now because of the outcome, but that’s my last memory of him alive.”
Katherine said Jones and his wife were caring for roughly 12 other children at the time.
She wanted to wait until Jones’ was charged in her son’s death before she spoke publicly about her little boy. The mom later described what she saw when she first learned of Matthew’s passing:
“His eyes went from a deep blue to really, really light blue. Bruises all over his face. I lost it. I just couldn’t hold it back.”
“I’m confused. I’m hurt. I’m angry. That was my life. My son was my life. My life didn’t start until I had my son and now I feel like I don’t even know what’s going on. How this is even happening and how this is even my reality?”
As Fox 6 reports, court filings said Matthew was found with numerous “injuries to his head and neck.”
Katherine described the last four months as an “ongoing nightmare”:
“I still pretend like he’s sleeping in the other room. Now it’s just like an ongoing nightmare of waking up and there are moments where I just wish he could be with me still.”
“That was my life. My son was my life. My life didn’t start until I had my son, and now, I feel like I don’t even know what’s going on. How this is even happening, and how this is even my reality?”
Jones is scheduled for an arraignment on August 1.
