A mom is getting slammed on social media after she refused to pay her babysitter the $16 per hour rate promised for watching her children.
Reddit user “VortexThing” posted a text message exchange regarding the payment between the babysitter, who is the poster’s sister, and the mother.
The conversation started with the babysitter asking the mother if she could come by and collect payment for the eight hours she spent watching the kids.
The mom refused and stated:
I wasn’t aware payment was involved. You got free ice cream and a day of fun… I’m sorry for the misinterpretation.
The babysitter quickly pointed out that the mom had offered her $16 per hour before the service.
The mom then asked to see text message proof that she offered the $16 per hour rate, so the babysitter sent her screenshots of their previous conversation.
The screenshots showed the mom asking the babysitter thought the rate was “fair,” and the babysitter agreeing.
Regardless, the mother refused to pay out the full $128 she owed for the babysitter’s eight hours of service. The babysitter said:
I’m sorry, but as much as I love your kids I am doing this for payment. Exclusively.
In response, the mom said that she was “stuck up” and offered a small payment.
The babysitter then agreed to take just $100, but the mom declined and blocked her phone number.
Many Reddit users suggested that the babysitter should take legal action against the mother, but the babysitter’s sibling said she’s hesitant. The original poster wrote:
I asked her about this. She’s hesitant because she thinks it’s a lot of legal work for $128. She’s just going to talk to the husband, who hopefully is a tad more reasonable.
So far, there hasn’t been an update to the babysitter’s story.
