Lori Farrell wasn’t completely sure what the striped thing was, but she made her best guess.
As Mamamia reports, the expectant mom had recently received a large gift of baby gear and other items from a friend. While going through it, Farrell found a black and white striped piece of fabric, the purpose of which wasn’t totally apparent. As far as she could tell, it looked like maternity clothing.
Farrell told Motherly:
In any case, it certainly fit like a maternity skirt. Sure, there was some odd extra fabric on the side, but maybe the designer had put it there to make it roomier.
If you feel like a failure today, just know that I wore a car seat cover a friend gave me because I thought it was a skirt. 😂😂😂😂😂 Itzy Ritzy Confetti Wedding Cake
At a certain point in pregnancy, you’re just happy to have something that fits and is comfortable. On her blog, Farrell wrote that she’s at the point where it’s hard to button her clothing, so a stretchy skirt was a great choice for a warm day:
Was I skeptical of the tag placement? Sure. Was I 100 percent sure it was a skirt? No. But it was comfortable, cute enough and with my limited wardrobe at 24 weeks pregnant, I rolled into work with confidence.
That’s when she looked up the brand and discovered they weren’t a boutique maternity fashion label. Rather, they made baby gear. As Farrell told Motherly:
Amused by the mix-up, the mom-to-be shared a photo of her fashion faux pas on Facebook and wrote, “If you feel like a failure today, just know that I wore a car seat cover a friend gave me because I thought it was a skirt.”
Her post racked up thousands of shares. Most commenters joined Farrell in finding the situation funny, though a few pointed out that it takes skill to rock a car seat accessory.
The company behind the car seat cover re-shared Farrell’s post on Instagram, calling it, “the best thing we’ve seen maybe ever.”
On her blog, Farrell wrote that she has enjoyed the attention her clothing mishap has brought and is glad she could make people laugh.
She also warned that she won’t be dispensing fashion tips in the future: “I am not a fashion blogger. I’m just a dog mom, human mom to be and the girl who wore the car seat cover as a skirt”
