A 3-year-old named Liriana has gained a huge following on Instagram for showcasing her adept makeup skills.

Much like other makeup bloggers, Liriana’s mom, Suella, makes the videos of her daughter applying makeup while promoting the brands and products she uses in her tutorials.

Yahoo Lifestyle reported that one of her videos was posted in October and already has amassed over 1 million views.

Many people were impressed by the girl’s display of dexterity and talent at such a young age. But others claimed that Liriana is far too young to be applying makeup. (Mouse over the photos to watch the Instagram videos below.)

In her videos, Liriana guides the viewer through a tutorial, applying concealer, eyeshadow, mascara, and lipstick.

Suella told Yahoo Lifestyle that her daughter started applying makeup after watching her do it:

“She loves to copy everything that I do. Literally everything has to match with me: our outfits, makeup, hair! It’s so funny and she’s been this way since she was, like, 1 and a half.”

The mom explained that she doesn’t do any of the makeup for Liriana:

“She does her own makeup from start to finish. I just sit there and record her while she does her own thing … She has always loved doing her makeup ever since she was about 2 years old.”

But some viewers were troubled by the mom’s decision to allow her daughter to wear makeup at such a young age. On Liriana’s Instagram account, commenters faced off.

Poor girl. Man, this is an example of why I hate society. Children can’t be themselves and feel like like the beautiful people they [are]. They get shaped by society to what they want them to look. But this isn’t her fault. Someone recording is making her do it, maybe for money. People these days, it’s horrible.

Too young to be doing that. Toxic chemicals in that makeup that she’s rubbing directly into her eyes. Where the heck are her parents?!

This makes me so sad….I’m 13 yrs old and don’t do makeup often. When I was this age, I played with sticks in the forest with my friends.

Bmthxkelsey asked:

Why [does] she need under eye concealer?

Ell.novak wrote:

Too young for this sh*t. Poor kids. They don’t know what is real childhood.

Others defended Suella’s decision.

Roycontes commented:

For everyone saying she’s “too young” she’s not she’s expressing her creativity through her face. It’s like drawing scribbles on a piece of paper, she just using makeup on her face for the same reason. She’s not gonna think natural beauty isn’t prettier than makeup she’s just having fun as a kid so let her be.

Nicaurycid__mua@alaska1982 explained:

Nobody said that she’s worrying about how she looks. Playing with makeup is a part of a childhood … We all went through playing with our moms’ makeup because it was fun. This has nothing to do with society.

Grow up people. I used to always play with my parents makeup. This is no different. She’s just having fun copying her mammy.

Because makeup is also a way for a little girl to have fun; it’s art. Have you not seen make up sets for kids? … Now if it’s to the point that they cannot leave the house without makeup, then that’s different.

She reminds me of me at that age!!! So cute! And I got into my mom’s makeup at three years old and my love for it never stopped … She’s adorable and has a bright future in this biz!!!!

Many also admitted that in spite of Liriana’s age, she is more skilled at makeup than they are.

When she’s better than me.

In one of her posts, mom Suella responded to the negative comments:

She randomly plays with makeup. This is not an everyday thing … After she’s done playing, I give her a bath and it’s over.

She told Yahoo Lifestyle people need to realize it’s “all for fun”:

“My daughter does not wake up and put makeup on. She just loves to play with it from time to time and I have no problem allowing her to do it … when I was reading people’s comments saying I’m trying to sell her or taking away her innocence or that making her not love herself without makeup, I was baffled. I don’t think any mother would bring that negativity to their child; this is all for fun … It’s a little kid playing.”

As for Liriana, the little girl seems like she’s found a hobby that she loves — and a mom who’s encouraging her to enjoy it.
