A mom left her 5-year-old son with her boyfriend, Wesley McCollum, while she went Christmas shopping, not knowing her son was learning a painful lesson about the holiday while she was gone.
She came home to find bruises covering her son’s body, with marks on his face, arms, and back. A handprint was also left on his cheek. The mom told KJRH that her boyfriend got violent with her child when he opened up a present that was under the Christmas tree; McCollum wanted to “teach him a lesson.”
The Oklahoma woman was shocked McCollum did this to her son — she never saw it coming.
The mom described the pain of finding out her son had been abused in a Facebook post, which has since been removed:
She wrote, in part:
Words cannot explain seeing your baby like this and having no clue what happened. I ran to him like any mother would do crying, hugging him, beggin what happened. “Wesley hurt me bad mama,” is all he kept saying.
Did I loose it? Absof**kinglutely.
And then I called the cops.
He tried to say it was “to teach him a lesson” and “He needed to learn to listen.”
I cannot sleep because I imagine my innocent child going thru this and I wasn’t there to protect him… for a grown man to punch a child over and over and slap him and beat him with a belt ALL over is no man at all… He is the lowest scum on earth…
And let me tell you this.. not once in these past 10 months have I ever even seen anger out of this person. I never EVER thought he would do this or I would of never been with him. Plain and simple. So the people wanting to ask, “why did the mother not stop this.” Here ya go! I’ve went through abuse with their dad for years and finally got away from him two years ago when he almost killed me in front of this son! I said it would never happen again and I never thought it would, but it did… this time to one of my kids. There is an evil inside of some people no one sees and that’s how this happened. If I could change my son places in a heartbeat I would.
Following the incident, the mom called police and filed a protective order against McCollum.
The 25-year-old man was arrested on complaints of child abuse and child neglect.
