At just 18 months old, Connie Rose Walsh was already so full of life.

A look at any picture or video of the little girl reveals that she loved the camera as much as the camera loved her.

As mom Dexy Leigh Walsh wrote on Facebook, she can’t thank Connie enough for choosing her as her mother:

She has made me who I am today with her being in hospital as a baby and made me so strong. Now she’s making me be even stronger for her big sister and to carry on her name. You will never be forgotten princess, I promise you.

On March 6, Dexy started her day just like any other. She woke up and walked into the room her two daughters shared. What she found, however, was far from normal.

As Dexy explained to Dearly, Connie had a three-foot teddy bear tucked down the side of her bed, in order to prevent injury if she accidentally rolled off of it in her sleep.

But when she walked into her daughters’ room that morning, she found the bear on top of Connie who was lying face up in her little bed. The only thing Dexy could see of Connie was her feet sticking out from under the stuffed bear.

According to the Daily Mail, Dexy started performing CPR right away while someone else dialed 911, but it was too late.

The mom of two wrote:

I have been blaming myself. She passed away due to suffocation as I had packed down the side of her bed with teddy’s and placed a big one on top of the smaller teddy’s to stop her from falling down the side of her bed, and she did exactly that but as it was all teddy bears she went under the massive teddy and fell asleep with the angels.

All I think about now is what if I just left it empty she would still be here maybe with just a small bump on her head. It’s all what ifs now.

Now she is sharing her and her daughter’s story in order to raise awareness.

Dexy said that she understands why moms want to make their child’s bed as cute as possible — she was one of them.

But while that’s fine during the day, a child’s bed should be stripped of everything from teddy bears to other toys and pillows at night. All they need is a blanket.

She continued:

I want every parent to see and be aware of this. Let them fall, don’t try to stuff small places up with soft things just leave it empty. She had a bed guard at one side and the smallest gap from her wall to her bed and that’s where I had put all her teddys, my biggest regret in life.

Please move everything off your kids bed and away from the sides. My oldest daughter used to have her bed covered in cushions, teddys, had princess drapes, the lot. They don’t need anything on their bed but a cover, a pillow isn’t even needed. I really hope my little princess’s tragic story can save someone else’s baby’s life.

Connie Rose was laid to rest on March 21. Dexy described the celebration of her life as “perfect in every way possible.” Those who loved her most released pink balloons into the sky in her honor:

Dexy added:

I miss you, Connie, so much. Life is so unfair at times. I’m so glad [and] proud you were my little girl, you made me who I am today and now I’m even stronger for your big sister. Thank you for being the most perfect and lovable baby.

Your smile can make anyone come from a really dull place to happy in seconds. Mum, Murray, and Dior love you lots and miss you so much baby! Everyone in the family is broken. I hope you are having fun princess. Sleep tight baby.

Anyone who would like to donate to the family to help with funeral costs can donate to the GoFundMe account set up by the family.
