UPDATE 2/12/19 at 10:00 a.m.: According to Fox 40, police have been able to locate Tereza Thomas, who was found by law enforcement in another county. She, along with the man she was allegedly with, were released. Melvin Goree was questioned by police. Thomas is now back with her family.

A California mother is frantically praying for her daughter’s safe return home.

Teresa Thomas told Fox 40 she fears her 13-year-old may have left home with people connected to sex trafficking.

Middle school student, Tereza Thomas, was supposed to be asleep at her grandmother’s Stockton’s home last Sunday night. Yet at midnight, she managed to sneak out of the house. Teresa told the station:

“This 25-year-old man sent a cab to my mom’s house at midnight and picked her up and we have not seen her since.”

Police have obtained information that led to Melvin Goree, 25, as a person of interest in Teresa’s disappearance. Since Sunday, Tereza has only received a few strange texts from her daughter.

She said:

“We have talked to her but the messages are not her. They’re not the words she uses. We’ve compared them to other texts.

We’ve seen her on videos but you can tell people are guiding what she’s saying and when she says too much the computer ends or the feed ends immediately. It is … it is absolutely terrifying every day.”

According to several tips, her mother has learned that Tereza was allegedly spotted in known red light districts across Central Valley, California. Teresa stated:

“It has been the worst nightmare. It is long, we’ve slept maybe an hour to two each day. You close your eyes and the things you imagine are unforgettable. No parent should have to endure this.”

In the meantime, the Stockton Police Department has put up flyers around the community and on social media.

Officials say the 13-year-old’s disappearance is high risk since she’s never run away. Her mom said her daughter is an honor student who would never leave home unless she was coerced to leave. Teresa said:

“I’m just dying inside and I need her to come home.”

The family has formed a search party. If you know anything about the whereabouts of Tereza Thomas, please call Stockton Police at 209-937-7911.

Tereza has been missing for one week.
