At first, she was sure it was the dog.

As Mamamia reports, Phoebe Bartlett’s mom could smell something awful. And the logical conclusion was that the dog had an accident on the carpet somewhere. Unable to track down the source of the odor, the mom decided it might be in her 3-year-old son’s room.

The mom opened her son’s drawer, and there it was. The answer to why she could smell urine. And also the answer (if she’d pondered it) to why her son didn’t visit the bathroom as often as he should have.

It was a drawer full of pee.

Bartlett told BuzzFeed that her mother (understandably) lost it in that moment:

“What happened was mum could smell wee in her room for about a week, but couldn’t find a patch from the dog, so she asked my brother if the wee was in her room. Then he opened the drawer and she screamed and said, ‘Did you do this?’ and he then said he did, haha!”

The 21-year-old from Bournemouth, England, showed up in time to snap a photo of her little brother at the moment of discovery (probably while her mother was still trying to find her happy place). Bartlett shared the photo on Twitter, noting that her brother had tried to blame it on the dog.

As disturbing and gross as the photo might have been, many people couldn’t help but laugh along with Bartlett at the situation.

Though other parents knew the mom’s pain.

And at least one commenter was moved to admire the construction of the drawer.

Bartlett’s mom reportedly threw the drawer away — and honestly, who could blame her? Parents are accustomed to having to deal with horrifying messes, but cleaning up your preschooler’s toilet drawer is a lot to ask.

To the extent that it’s possible to know why a 3-year-old does anything, the family thinks they know why he peed in the drawer. Bartlett told BuzzFeed:

“He must have been doing it while he’s in his room watching his tablet, which is also on the drawer, and can’t be bothered to go to the toilet, so he opened the drawer and was peeing in there.”

Bartlett has gotten some criticism as to whether a good sister would share the photo with the world.

However, she still finds it funny. She told BuzzFeed:

“At the end of the day, it’s my brother, and my mum is fine with it, so it’s OK!”
