New York police are searching for a mother after she allegedly attacked an elderly woman while they were in line to see the new film “Dumbo.”
The incident started when the mother and her two children got in line at an AMC theater in Manhattan’s Upper West Side.
An 81-year-old woman, who does not wish to be identified, told NBC New York that the family cut in front of her.
That’s when she reached out to touch the woman’s daughter to let them know. She explained that it was just a tap:
“I went like this, just the gentlest, touch, I just went like that to her daughter.”
The elderly woman said the mom became angry and started yelling. She tried to apologize, but the mother then became violent. She told the outlet:
“She said, ‘Oh yeah?’ And then I felt somebody come behind me and grab onto my hair, and just fling me down backwards.”
Strangers rushed to help the 81-year-old, who had been knocked to the ground.
She was rushed to the hospital, where it was determined she didn’t have any fractures. She was treated for pain and swelling.
Meanwhile, the mother responsible had left the scene. The New York Police Department released a photo of the woman, hoping that the public can help identify her.
However, some social media users are siding with the mom.
Many said that the elderly woman should not have touched the mother’s child, no matter what the situation was. One Facebook user wrote:
The older woman, should have never put her hands on the woman children. Two sides to this story.
Sometimes being stressed can prevent you from acting rational.
Regardless of how some social media users feel, police are on the search for the mom.
The New York Police Department said that if you can help identify the woman, contact 1-800-577-TIPS (8477).
