On Tuesday, a video taken of a Pennsylvania toddler being teased about her weight by a grown woman at daycare started circulating on social media.
The child’s aunt, Jennifer Ortiz, said she was sent the video that day, according to WTXF.
The clip showed her 2-year-old niece, Auburey, at Amazing Kidz Academy LLC in North Philadelphia.
She appeared to be standing quietly while a mother, whose son attends the care center, commented on her appearance. She told the toddler:
“If you don’t get out of my face, with your big a**, what they need to do is stop feeding you.”
Ortiz, who said she was speaking out on behalf of the child’s mother, told the news outlet that she was horrified by the video:
“It’s just, it’s horrible, how could you speak to someone’s kids like that? It’s very shocking, and in front of other kids it hurt, it hurt a lot.”
Now, the woman who filmed the little girl is apologizing.
In a tearful interview with ABC6, the mother admitted that she was wrong to criticize the little girl.
She claimed that she meant to send the video in a private message to another mom at the daycare, but accidentally posted it publicly. The mother, who didn’t wish to be identified, said:
“It was nothing to hurt anyone or like anything bad towards the little girl. I really would like to apologize to her mother more because I am a mother, at the end of the day, and I couldn’t imagine anyone doing this to my son.”
The woman said that she was 22 and often makes “dumb mistakes,” but regrets what she did this time.
She said that her son likely won’t be able to attend the daycare now that she’s angered the community.
Amazing Kidz Academy LLC called the video “mean and senseless” and assured that none of the staff were involved.
