On July 6, an Atlanta mother went on a rampage, allegedly massacring her family by stabbing four of her children and her husband to death.

The one child who survived described the chilling moments during which the murders took place.

Nine-year-old Diana Romero watched as her mother, Isabel Martinez, picked up a knife from the kitchen and allegedly slashed her family members, one by one, as they slept, KSDK reports.

After allegedly taking lives of her husband — 33-year-old Martin Romero — and four of her children — 10-year-old Isabela Martinez, 7-year-old Dacota Romero, 4-year-old Dillan Romero, and 2-year-old Axel Romero — Martinez picked up the phone and called 911 to report that they were dead.

Diana was left in serious, but stable, condition after her mother’s attack.

The surviving child told investigators about her day-to-day life before the tragedy. She described playing outside with the neighbors, but noted that none of her friends ever came to her house or vice versa.

She was also close with her brothers and sisters. They watched TV together and played board games.

Diana explained that the family had just taken an overnight trip to Savannah, Georgia, together, which she described as normal and calm. She told investigators that her parents didn’t fight.

According to WGRZ, Martinez also talked with investigators following the killings, but her story included some different details.

The mother claimed to her husband that she didn’t want to be there because she felt a “devil-like spirit in Savannah.” Martinez said the waves tried to take her and her children away, adding that she “just wanted to save them.”

According to Diana, her happiness ended when the family returned home and the bloodshed began.

The daughter described the minutes leading up to the killings, which began when her father, brothers, and sisters were all sleeping.

As her mother prepared to stab Diana, she told her to forgive her and that she loved her. Diana said Martinez told her that she was going to see Jesus in the sky, to which the 9-year-old girl responded by crying and telling her mother she didn’t want to go see Jesus.

According to Diana, after Martinez stabbed her siblings, her mother took Diana into the room where Martin was sleeping. After he was awoken and alerted to what had happened, he ran to the door to get help, only to be stopped by his wife, who allegedly stabbed him with the knife. Diana said she then watched as Martinez stabbed one of her brothers.

Diana said her mother never screamed or cried as she allegedly stabbed her family to death. Martinez then called authorities after she had cut herself with the knife.

Martinez has denied killing her husband and four children, blaming her husband’s family friend instead. She said “the truth will come to light.”

Martinez appeared in court on July 20.

It was her first time back since her peculiar courtroom appearance on July 7. During that appearance, the mother bowed down, waved to the courtroom, and gave a thumbs up.

A GoFundMe page was established to help with the costs of the family’s July 12 funeral and also to help with Diana’s medical bills.
